Jongkuch Mach: The 7’6″ Australian Teen Taller Than Every Active NBA Player

At just 18 years old, Jongkuch Mach already stands 7 feet 6 inches (229 cm). That makes the Australian prospect taller than every active player in the NBA, including Victor Wembanyama. Born in Perth to South Sudanese parents, Mach has drawn global attention for both his extreme height and the mobility he shows on the court.
Early Growth and Late Start
Mach grew up in Western Australia and did not play organized basketball until he was about 14. By then he already measured around 6’7″. He continued growing rapidly and eventually reached his current listed height of 7’6″. Scouts note that he remains only a couple of centimetres shorter than the two tallest players in NBA history, Manute Bol and Gheorghe Mureศan.
Despite his size, Mach moves surprisingly well. Observers regularly highlight his ability to run the floor, protect the rim, and finish around the basket. His standing reach is so long that he can dunk the ball without leaving the ground.
Playing for Centre of Excellence
Mach currently plays for Basketball Australiaโs Centre of Excellence in the NBL1 East, the countryโs second-tier competition. The program, based in Canberra, develops the countryโs top young talent. He has shown strong shot-blocking instincts and continues to add strength to a still-lean frame. In the past year he has gained significant weight through focused training and nutrition, improving his ability to handle physical contact.
American colleges have already shown interest. Schools including LSU, Colorado, and Santa Clara have made offers or expressed strong recruiting attention. Mach has also appeared in international showcases such as the adidas Eurocamp, where he stood out for his defensive impact.
Looking Ahead
Mach has spoken openly about his NBA ambitions. He has named Victor Wembanyama as a player he admires and has even mentioned the idea of one day sharing the court with him. At this stage he remains a long-term project. Height alone does not guarantee success, and he still needs to refine his skills, build more strength, and gain experience against higher-level competition.
Still, few prospects in the world offer the same combination of size, mobility, and upside. At 18, Jongkuch Mach has already made the basketball world take notice simply by standing on the court.
