Charlitria Thomas Shot in the Jaw by Teen Ex, Later Charged with Helping Him Evade Police

Charlitria Thomas, a 31-year-old Baton Rouge woman, was shot in the jaw by her 15-year-old estranged boyfriend in December 2025. Months later, police charged her with helping the same teenager avoid arrest.

The Shooting

On December 18, 2025, Baton Rouge police responded to a shooting in the 200 block of Evergreen Drive. They found Thomas with a gunshot wound to her jaw. Witnesses and surveillance footage identified the shooter as 15-year-old Damon King, described as her estranged boyfriend. The pair had been arguing when King produced a firearm and fired one round that struck her in the face. He was carrying two guns at the time.

According to the arrest warrant, King yelled at Thomas, ordered her to sit in the grass, and stopped people from helping her. He also stole her purse before fleeing on foot. Thomas needed emergency surgery and was intubated because of the severity of her injuries.

The Teenโ€™s Escape and Capture

King became a wanted juvenile on charges that included attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery, illegal use of a weapon, and being a juvenile in possession of a firearm. Detectives later said Thomas withheld information about his whereabouts and told officers she had not seen or heard from him.

Witnesses reported seeing Thomas driving King around after she left the hospital. On December 31, Mississippi Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle linked to Thomas. King was inside with her behind the wheel. Authorities arrested the teenager on the outstanding Louisiana warrants and additional Mississippi charges. Officers released Thomas at the scene.

Accessory Charges

Further investigation led Baton Rouge police to conclude that Thomas had actively helped King evade capture. Detectives said she concealed his location, refused to cooperate, and transported him across state lines while knowing he was wanted. In 2026, authorities obtained a warrant charging her as an accessory after the fact in connection with the attempted murder and related offenses.

Thomas was later taken into custody. The case has drawn attention because the alleged victim of a serious shooting is accused of protecting the person who shot her. Police continue to treat the original shooting and the accessory allegations as separate but connected investigations.

The unusual turn of events highlights the complicated dynamics sometimes present in cases involving intimate partners and underage individuals.
