Moroccan YouTuber Ayoub Ben Nesnes Jailed After Controversial Dog-Eating Video

A Moroccan YouTuber has been sentenced to eight months in prison after posting a video that showed him skinning, cooking, and eating the carcass of a stray dog in a stunt that sparked nationwide outrage.
The content creator, Ayoub Ben Nesnes, who is widely known online as Bn Nsns, claimed the video was intended as a protest against the soaring cost of livestock during Eid al-Adha, saying he could not afford to buy a sheep for the religious holiday. The incident quickly became one of Moroccoโs most controversial social media stories of the year.
Why the Video Caused Public Outrage
The 41-minute video reportedly showed Ben Nesnes retrieving the body of a dog that he said had already been killed in a road accident. He then skinned, cooked, and ate the animal while presenting it as an alternative to the traditional Eid sacrifice.
The footage drew fierce criticism from the public, animal welfare groups, and religious leaders. Many viewers described the video as offensive and disturbing, while others argued it disrespected one of Islamโs most important religious celebrations. The video was later removed from YouTube.
Ben Nesnes Defended His Actions
Following the backlash, Ben Nesnes insisted that he had not killed the dog himself. He maintained that he had found the animal dead after it had reportedly been struck by a vehicle.
He also repeated that the stunt was meant to highlight the rising price of sheep in Morocco, which has become a growing concern for many families during Eid al-Adha. However, his explanation failed to calm public anger.
Court Hands Down Prison Sentence
Authorities arrested the 26-year-old influencer in the city of Martil, and his case was later heard by the Temara Court of First Instance.
The court sentenced Ben Nesnes to eight months in prison and ordered him to pay a 20,000 Moroccan dirham fine. Prosecutors had accused him of several offences, including animal mistreatment and publishing content considered harmful to public order and public morals.
A Case That Sparked National Debate
The incident ignited widespread discussions across Morocco about the responsibilities of online influencers, the limits of controversial content, animal welfare, and respect for religious traditions.
While Ben Nesnes said his video was intended as a social protest, the courts concluded that his actions crossed legal boundaries, resulting in a prison sentence and financial penalty.
